Art was diagnosed with a fungal infection of his right eye. At first it seemed fairly routine but the infection, known as Paecilomyces lilacinus keratitis, soon turned quite serious. Art lost his vision in that eye.

A year later, a cornea transplant restored his vision to 20/30!  Art is an outdoors kind of guy and he has photographs in the exhibit from his first hike back into the high country after his transplant.
